I bought mine on the first weekend of Jun 2010. As of 25 Mar 2011, I have 1560 miles on the bike. I rode right through a Chicago winter with Nokian Extreme 294's and have never had a problem. I got used to the seat and it is not a problem. I have to mention that I ride with Castelli Legrezza winter bibtights with chamios taht are comfortable. I am still new to MTB although I am now at a level where I yearn for premium components. I will use this ride as my commuter/winter bike and will invest the serious cash into an Elite 9.9 ssl. My goal is to get involved in XC racing. I am not worried that someone is going to start to lift components off the 4300 disc when it is locked up and this is the greatest benefit to me. Great support from the staff over at Village Cycle Sport in Elk Grove Village, IL.

I ride at least five miles a day commuting to work on desert trails and asphalt. Handles great and transitions surfaces like a champ. I also hit trails in the desert hills and the bike never falters. Great for beginners!

      Comments:

I don't have thousands of dollars to spend on a bike but I wanted a quality ride that would last me a long time. The 4300 has done that. I've been out several times and it has not failed me yet. The seat is a little uncomfortable but that can always be swapped out. I swapped out the cheap pedals with some Shimano Clip-Ins and I'm very pleased with my purchase. [...]I just ordered the Trek 820 WSD for my girlfriend from them so she can tag along!

Light weight compared to other bikes in this price range and class. Smooth shifting gears. Seat could use an upgrade, but other than that no complaints! Looked at Specialized bike in the same price range; the 4300 felt as if it had better handling and slightly lighter. Took my bike on a pretty rough trail today...took a small spill- gotta break it in sometime!!!

Beginning mountain biker / trail rider . Came off older bike that was heavy . The TREK is light, gearing is great for climbing . Shifter is quick and easy to use on tight trails . Suspension soaks up rocks, roots, ruts . Tires took every rock and stump on the trail no problems ( correct inflation helps) . Tires are a little loose on gravel, but good for all purpose tire . Bike exceeds my skill level at this time . Great beginner to intermediate bike .Made my friend with new bike need an upgrade to keep up .
